This is a list of episodes for the anime series Case Closed, originally titled Detective Conan in Japan. The episodes are directed by Kenji Kodama and Yasuichiro Yamamoto and produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha and Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation. The series is based on the on-going Case Closed manga series by Gosho Aoyama.[1] Since its premiere in Japan on January 8, 1996 on Yomiuri TV and Nippon TV, the series has spanned sixteen seasons so far, with 526 episodes airing as of February 23, 2009. Additionally, eight original video animation (OVA) episodes have been released.
Case Closed is licensed for English language release in North America by Funimation Entertainment. The English dubbed episodes began airing on Cartoon Network as part of their Adult Swim programming block on May 24, 2004. Fifty episodes aired until it was canceled in January 2005 due to low ratings. The dubbed episodes aired in Canada on YTV's Bionix programming block from April 7, 2006 until it was cancelled on September 2, 2006. They also aired on the Funimation Channel programming block on CoLours TV starting June 19, 2006. On July 22, 2008, Funimation released its first 26-episode season box set (1-26), with a second season set released on September 30, 2008 (27-52), and a third set of 27 episodes on November 25, 2008 (53-79). Season 4 was released on February 17, 2009, and contains the next 26 episodes (80-105), 22 of which have never before been seen. A season 5 is scheduled for May 12th, 2009, and contains episodes 106-130, all of which have never before been seen. At this moment, episode 130 of Case Closed (123 by the Japanese count) is the last known episode dubbed by FUNimation. There is currently no information on whether or not FUNimation has more episodes to release or if they plan on licensing more episodes in the future. The series has also been dubbed into English by the anime television network Animax and broadcast on its English-language networks in Southeast Asia.[2][3]
